Ever wanted to join a super-fun committee that is responsible for one of the bigger activities of our association? Read all about the PC and its endeavors from Renske, the chair of the committee this year!
The PC:
What does the PC do?
The PC organizes the Parents Day! This is a day where you can bring your parents to uni and we show them what it is like studying AI. We organize some lectures, some activities, and make them sweat over some exercises. At the end of the day we have a nice borrel.
When is the PC most active?
The PC is most active on the day itself and the weeks before. On the day itself we make sure everybody is where they need to be at the right time and host the exercises/activities. We have a meeting approximately every 2 weeks, though right before the Parents Day it might be every week. This sounds like a lot of work, but it really isn't that much.
Can you describe the PC in three words?
Most fun committee / Needs more members (:P)
The Experience:
What is the most enjoyable part of being in the PC?
I really enjoyed the Parents Day I went to in my first year, and it is really nice to be able to organize an amazing day for the current first years. Because there are so many things we have to arrange there is something fun to do for everyone. Besides this, we have great people in the committee, and as soon as we have a new member we will organize a committee union!
What is the most valuable skill you learn from being in the PC?
The Parents Day is quite a big activity (about 150 people in total) and a lot of things need to be done. We need to have a location, a website, lecturers, activities, a lunch, a borrel and so on. These are all things you could potentially learn a lot about.
What is the biggest disappointment you've experienced in your time at the PC?
Because of COVID the first Parents Day I helped organize was canceled, and last year we had an online Parents Day. Online it was still fun, but very different from the physical version. This year we can hopefully organize an offline version again!
How would you describe the perfect new member of the PC?
The perfect new member(s) would be excited! You can still attend the Parents Day if you are in the committee, you'll just help with the preparation, so don't let that stop you!
If this look into the PC has got you all excited to join, all you need to do is send an email to intern@svcognac.nl to sign up!
