Are you curious to find out what might be in store for you after you’ve finished studying AI? Do you have the urge to help inform your fellow CognACcies about all the exciting opportunities that await a freshly graduated AI student? Do you want to be the one to contact companies, alumni and many more sources to learn more about the world outside of uni? Then you are exactly the person the XC is looking for! Here the lovely members of the XC let you in on the External Committee’s basics: what they do and how they’ve experienced it thus far!

The XC:

What does the XC do?

The XC organizes various more ‘serious’ activities which are mainly career related. As the name already states it, it is the External Committee; we work with companies, but also alumni and many others to make sure our CognAC members get opportunities to explore their future options by getting in touch with them through our activities.

When are you most active?

The XC is most active before and until the Drinking on the Job (DotJ) and even more before and during the Career Week. The DotJ is usually around April and the Career Week somewhere in February.

What is the biggest activity the XC organizes?

The biggest activity we organise is the Career Week which consists of multiple activities all planned in one week. This year it consisted of the Career Fair in Gathertown, lunch lectures about internships and going abroad and a workshop hosted by a company called Working Talent! Especially due to all the measures it was quite challenging to come up with a nice and enjoyable format for our activities but thankfully in spite of that it was very successful!

Our Experience:

What is most enjoyable about being a member of the XC?

Next to admiring Micha’s muscles, it is very rewarding to see everyone enjoying an activity you have worked on for several months!

What is something you’ve learned by being in the XC?

The XC teaches you to organize large activities. The nicest thing we’ve learnt is how to get in touch with companies.

What are some of the challenges you’ve experienced in this committee?

Getting enough companies is definitely a challenge. And sometimes things do not work out like you want to, so you will have to be flexible and come up with good alternatives!

What would you like to say to someone who is considering joining the XC?

Don’t consider, just do it!

If this interview has got you all excited to join the XC, all you need to do is send an email to intern@svcognac.nl to sign up!
